More Than a Dozen Alabama Players Invited to NFL Combine

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide recently won its fifth national championship in nine years, and the strength of the program was further bolstered by the news that the team led all colleges, with 14 of its players attending the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine. Last year, the University of Michigan sent the same number of players to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

The combine provides NFL scouts an opportunity to watch draft prospects up close and put them through a variety of evaluations, such as athletic-based tests and medical and psychological exams. Alabama players attending the combine include cornerback Anthony Averett, linebacker Rashaan Evans, wide receiver Robert Foster, and running back Bo Scarbrough. Ohio State ranked second in players attending the combine, with 11, followed by Georgia and Louisiana State University at 10 each. The 2018 NFL Draft begins on April 26.

2. The Onion Market (Switzerland) – Held in Bern, the Onion Market is Switzerland’s biggest folk festival, complete with 50 tons of onion rings, braids, and single bulbs for sale as well as onion soup and tarts for sampling. One of the non-onion highlights is the confetti war.

3. Bacon Festival (United States) – This California-based festival takes place in January and includes dishes such as bacon salad, bacon gelato, and bacon tater tots as well as local craft beers. In keeping with its bacon theme, the festival even features a Kevin Bacon tribute band.

Florida is home to a variety of food festivals, each of which showcases the region’s eclectic flavors. One such festival is the Florida Strawberry Festival, which, aside from a hiatus during World War II, has been celebrated annually since its inception in 1930. Beyond strawberries, the event includes parades, contests, and youth development programs. The 2018 Florida Strawberry Festival is scheduled to take place from March 1 to 11.

Another popular festival celebrating a particular food is the Central Florida Peanut Festival, which occurs annually on the first Saturday of October. Held at Heritage Park in Williston, the event includes live music, a petting zoo, and children’s rides. Capping off the festivities is the crowning of a Little Peanut King and Queen.
